Course Objectives: 
The goal of this course is to teach the principles of structural performance evaluation of buildings subjected to Seismic actions as well as introduction to structural retrofit of buildings with insufficient structural capacity or those that have sustained earthquake damage.
Course Content: 

Introduction; Basics of Seismology; Quantification of Seismic events, Earthquake and Design Spectra, Introduction of performance based design approach, Evaluation and retrofit requirements of existing buildings, Inspection and Screening Methods, review of structural systems – practice and deficiencies; Analysis methods in evaluating performance of existing buildings, general review of retrofit techniques to improve perfromance of non-ductile buildings, use of finite element analysis methods for structural performance evaluation of existing and strengthened buildings; Seismic evaluation and retrofit of reinforced concrete buildings, Seismic evaluation and retrofit of precast concrete buildings; Seismic evaluation and retrofit of structural steel buildings, Seismic evaluation and retrofit of masonry buildings, Seismic evaluation and retrofit of foundations of buildings, retrofit of structure using active and passive control devices.
