Course Objectives:

The aim of the course is to provide the student with basic knowledge on types of renewable energy sources and related conversion systems with particular emphasis kept on the concept of renewable energy and its utilization properties.

Course Content:

Fundamental energy equations. Energy sources and their global and national distribution and usage. Properties of renewable energy sources. Wind energy: Wind characteristics, wind energy potential, wind power. Hydroelectric energy, sources, potential and utilization. Fundamentals of horizontal- and vertical axis wind turbines. Offshore wind farms. Solar energy, potential and principles of its utilization. Geothermal energy. Marine renewables: Wave energy converters, tidal energy converters. Other renewable energy sources. Feasibility of renewable energy sources in Turkey and existing applications.
