Food Engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering discipline in which all processes (procurement, R&D, production, quality control, packaging, storage and logistics) are designed, monitored and managed in a complete and standardized manner in order to provide quality and safe food products to consumers. Yeditepe University Food Engineering Department accepts students with 100% and 50% scholarships.

Vision

The vision of Yeditepe University Department of Food Engineering is to be a nationally and internationally recognized department that contributes to science, technology, industry and society with its education, training and research activities within the scope of sustainable development goals, can produce innovative products and technological solutions by evaluating the food system from all aspects, can guide food policies, and is recognized in national and international platforms.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Food Engineering at Yeditepe University is to train food engineers who know the food system, can apply the technologies necessary for the healthy and safe production, processing and preservation of food in the light of the scientific education they receive, follow and contribute to developments in science and technology with a focus on sustainability and innovation, and have professional and ethical responsibility.

Program Educational Objectives

Our educational objectives of Yeditepe University Food Engineering undergraduate program;

  • Contributes to the sustainability of the food system by working as an engineer, manager, marketer or entrepreneur in different areas of the food system (food production, design, planning, quality control and safety, procurement, logistics, R&D, etc.) in national/international companies and public sector,
  • Conducting scientific studies in master's and doctoral programs at universities in Turkey and abroad, R&D centers or units,

to train engineers.

Yeditepe University Department of Food Engineering strives to provide students with expertise not only in the field of engineering, but also in areas such as food safety, health and nutrition, gastronomy and culinary arts, entrepreneurship, and business with a transdisciplinary approach. In this context, concentration programs are created in different fields. These concentration programs include the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and the Department of Business Administration. The advanced laboratory infrastructure of the world's best universities is available at Yeditepe University Department of Food Engineering. When selecting faculty members in the Department of Food Engineering, care is taken to ensure that their postgraduate education is from a prestigious school abroad. Relations with the food industry are not only within the scope of projects. The sector, which is one of the department's areas of interest, takes place in one-to-one lessons. Particularly in design courses, in the applied areas, a worker from the sector comes every week. Apart from this, factory visits by students are also very common in the department. Within the scope of the courses, visits are made to the leading companies in the food industry and students are provided to see the production facilities. In Yeditepe University Food Engineering, it is aimed to provide students with a new profession that includes different fields such as innovation, digitalization and sustainability in addition to the classical food engineering education from the past with a more interdisciplinary approach. Some of the duties of Food Engineers who have successfully completed the Department of Food Engineering at Yeditepe University and have a bachelor's degree are as follows:

  • To inspect the additives used in food,
  • Developing ideas for new products to be produced,
  • Evaluating and deciding on the scope of projects,
  • Evaluating the formulations of food products and changing them if necessary,
  • Testing food samples,
  • To evaluate the equipment and systems used during production,
  • To review the techniques in food processing, packaging and preservation process,
  • Production and performance evaluation.

Food engineers can find jobs in a wide variety of places including factories, restaurants, catering companies, offices and laboratories, work in the units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, or continue their professional careers as lecturers by completing a master's degree. They can also be hired as auditors in international certification bodies.
