Course Objectives: 
The course aims to provide students with a fundamental understanding of mass transfer and separation processes and to provide knowledge and abilities to calculate mass transfer flux using diffusion coefficients and using mass transfer coefficients and to carry out basic design of mass transfer equipment used in absorption and distillation.
Course Content: 

Introduction to mass transfer and diffusion. Molecular diffusion in gases, liquids and solids. Diffusion coefficients. Mass transfer coefficients. Correlations of mass transfer coefficients. Description of mass transfer between phases using film and overall mass transfer coefficients. Types of separation processes and methods. Absorption in packed towers. Binary distillation in plate towers. Shortcut methods for multicomponent distillation problems.
