Course Objectives:
The aim of this course is to provide students with a knowledge of the chemicals of life (carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids etc.): their structures, characteristics, chemical reactions and functions in the body and an ability for their qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Course Content:
Chemicals of life, carbohydrates, classification, properties and chemical reactions; lipids, general characteristics, fatty acids, fats and oils, waxes, glycerophospholipids, sphingolipids, steroids, cell membranes; aminoacids , electrophoresis, peptides and proteins, protein structure, denaturation; nucleic acids ,nucleosides and nucleotides, DNA and RNA. DNA replication. types of RNA. Term project.
