Course Objectives: 
The goal of this course is to develop the ability in students to evaluate fundamental engineering problems in a simple manner by creating free body diagrams and to calculate internal forces and support reactions of basic structural members by utilizing equilibrium principles under static loading conditions, as well as equilibrium equations based on these principles.
Course Content: 

Introduction to Engineering Mechanics,

Definition of Rigid Body Mechanics and its principles,

Evaluation of equilibrium condition of a particle under static forces and calculation of their resultant,

Evaluation of equivalent systems of forces acting on rigid bodies,

Evaluation of equilibrium conditions of a rigid body under static forces, definition of support types and calculation of support reactions,

Definition of centroid and centers of gravity, calculation of the centroids of two dimensional rigid bodies and distributed loads,

Evaluation of structural systems, calculation of member forces in plane truss systems and reaction forces at the hinges of frames,

Calculation of internal forces of frame members and cable systems,

Definition of the concept of friction, evaluation of the balanced condition of rigid bodies under static loads and friction force.
