Course Objectives: 
• To understand how carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism and amino acid metabolism work together to sustain body's equilibrium or homeostasis. • To foster the students the ability to apply the mathematics, science and engineering (in particular, bioengineering) knowhow that they are going to require in either academic or industrial lives. • To ensure that the students gain biochemistry background at a theoretical as well as practical level, that they have the capability to design and carry out experiments in genetics and bioengineering fields and thus to provide effective solutions to questions and problems that they may face in the future. • To train individuals with professional ethics and social conscience, who complies with professional ethics in contemporary topics in applications, with a mission to avoid any verbal and hands-on exercise that would jeopardize the environment and human health.
Course Content: 

Laws of thermodynamics; ATP and energy; cellular metabolism and fermentation; glycolysis; TCA cycle; oxidative phosphorylation; photosynthesis; fatty acid metabolism; metabolism of nitrogenous compounds: hormonal regulation and integration of mammalian metabolism. Selected biochemistry experiments in the lab section parallel to the course content.
