A plant-derived exosome technology developed by Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Şahin, Head of the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering at Yeditepe University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pakize Neslihan Candangelen, a faculty member of the department, has been honored with the “Best National Invention Award” by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT).
The invention, titled “Use of Plant-Derived Exosomes to Enhance Skin Cell Viability and Hair Growth Capacity,” was developed using exosomes obtained from plants such as pineapple, garlic, and pomegranate. Based on naturally occurring nanovesicles involved in intercellular biological communication, the technology aims to support skin cell viability and biological processes associated with hair growth. Following extensive laboratory research and the development of a specialized formulation, the invention successfully completed the patenting process and was transformed into a commercial product.
We congratulate our faculty members and their team on this significant achievement and wish them continued success in their scientific and academic endeavors.
