SDSR 2025 – International Conference and Workshop on Seismic Design and Retrofit of Steel Structures

The Department of Civil Engineering at Yeditepe University hosted the International Conference and Workshop on Seismic Design of Steel Structures and Retrofit (SDSR 2025) on October 16–17, 2025, organized in collaboration with the Turkish Structural Steel Association (TUCSA) and the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS).

The event brought together leading academics, engineers, and industry professionals from Europe and America, providing an important platform for sharing knowledge and experience on earthquake resistance, strengthening methods, and sustainable design of steel structures.

At the conference, Prof. Dr. Raffaele Landolfo (Italy), Chair of the ECCS Seismic Committee; Prof. Dr. Benjamin Schafer (USA) from Johns Hopkins University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Kanyılmaz from Politecnico di Milano; Prof. Dr. Ece Ceylan Baba, Vice Rector of Yeditepe University; and Architect Şerif Süveydan were among the invited speakers.

Yener Gür’eş, President of TUCSA, emphasized the need to increase the use of steel structures in Turkey, while Dr. Özgür Köylüoğlu, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Yeditepe University, noted that although Turkey has a strong steel production capacity, this potential is not yet adequately reflected in construction practices.

On October 16, 2025, the ECCS European Steel Design Awards 2025 (ESDA 2025) ceremony was held. With the participation of ECCS Secretary General Véronique Dehan and ECCS Awards Coordinator Annemarie Hagoort, the ceremony honored projects across Europe that showcased the innovative and aesthetic use of steel structures.

As the Department of Civil Engineering at Yeditepe University, we are proud to have hosted the international steel community in Istanbul and to have organized these significant events.
