Course Objectives: 
The course provides the students with engineering knowledge on pressurized and open channel flow and practice on the design and planning of water transmission pipelines and open channels and related conduit elements such as valves and weirs.
Course Content: 

Introduction, research methods in hydraulics. Buckingham theorem. Model theory, Reynolds and Froude models. Pressurized flow. Calculation of continuous and local head losses. Flow in parallel and serial pipes. Pumps and turbines. Fundamental calculations for water distribution networks. Rules and guidelines for application. Principles of open channel flow. Velocity distribution, head loss. Calculation of uniform flow depth, the concept of best hydraulic cross section. Composite channels. Specific energy and applications. Hydraulic jump. Surface profiles in gradually varyling flows. Weirs and weir hydraulics. Basics of numerical modeling in hydraulics.
